EVA
“Of course I’ll hurt you. Of course you’ll hurt me. Of course we will hurt each other. But this is the very condition of existence. To become spring, means accepting the risk of winter. To become presence, means accepting the risk of absence”

Martin’s wife, Eva, was diagnosed with a multiple sclerosis in 2007 and it gradually changed his career focus, at first in a bleak direction before he found a new creative purpose in realizing his most ambitious piece of work in ‘Superhuman’.
The only way for Martin to survive the end of the life they both had lived was to write music. Not music for other people but music for himself and Eva; music that would create a drive for survival and inspiration. In 2010, Eva told Martin that her birthday wish was for him to write her a happy melody, as opposed to the kind of melancholy Europeans as they were tend to have. That was basically the beginning of ‘Superhuman’, a title that was all about good energy which was so powerful for Martin and Eva, while being able to touch other people in the same way at the same time. And so it does.
Tillman’s ability to touch his listeners is undoubtable but no one could be moved as much as Eva did:
‘Superhuman was a way of dreaming a different existence for Martin and myself. His music let me travel with my mind to the places I could no longer experience with my body. In that way, creativity can change anyone’s outlook. Music might not physically heal you, but it certainly can heal the relationships and the soul. So it is very gratifying to have people relate to Martin’s music in that way because love is the driving force in making people rise above their challenges, and truly become superhuman. That transcendental spirit that music gives us is what this album is dedicated to.’
How powerful a source of inspiration was Martin and Eva’s not only love story but story of life, mortality and human affection, has been shown by a world-class visual artist, Anna Katharina Scheidegger, who visualized a cut from Martin’s album ‘Superhuman’.
UNLOCKING THE LOCKS
The song entitled ‘Unlocking the Locks’, thanks to AnnaKa’s award-winning talents, became an artistic interpretation of Martin’s ‘ode to true love’. A poignant metaphor ‚exposing the raw chill of being trapped inside a body so full of potential yet rendered immobile by forces of nature. Symbolized by a back-lit water ice molds encasing flowers in various states of melt.’

Eva described it in her own words on her YouTube Channel: ‘As the music transforms, the icy surface of pain and fright melt under the touch of kindness and love.’
Her reaction to the gift so unexpected, yet deeply resonating in her soul, she closed with words: Once in a while, a human gesture comes from the most unexpected place and opens a light, breathy space in our souls,’ she wrote on YouTube. ‘It gives us this ‘Aha!’ moment. It makes us believe that we are all interconnected and that the current of a certain positive energy exists and is passed on as a lighting torch of hope.’

Eva left the life she loved on 04/17/2019, exactly as she lived it: bravely, wisely, unapologetically, and on her own terms.
Eva. The first woman. A spirit beyond the substantiality. Superhuman.
